Students and interns – Thank you!

Last updated on

Our students’ and interns’ curious minds and fresh perspectives inspire us yearly. As many of our 2022 students head back to school this fall, we wanted to share some of their experiences working with us. While they were here, we asked them to challenge us, innovate and explore new possibilities for the future of our industry – we know it is a bright one! Our best wishes to these prospective leaders as they continue their career journeys.

Calling all students!

If you’re a student or know a student looking to challenge the status quo on a supportive and collaborative team, check out our 2023 student opportunities! We’re hiring students across North America with diverse skills and experience, from engineering and technology to human resources and communications, looking for the next generation of energy problem solvers.

Meet our 2022 students

Aishwarya Ilangovan – Co-op Student – Pipeline engineering – Calgary, AB

As a student on the Pipeline Engineering team, I had the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest and most dedicated people in the industry. The team made me feel welcomed into an environment where I was encouraged to explore creative ideas, work together to solve problems and have open discussions. My mentors have equipped me with technical and life skills, giving me the confidence to approach situations with clarity and precision. These skills will be invaluable in my career.

A passion of mine has always been volunteering. It has given me a deep appreciation for all that I have and helping those in need is a firm reminder of what matters – family, friends and health. With the right mindset, small actions can lead to substantial impact, which motivated my sister and I to start our not-for-profit organization, Nila Care Foundation. Our goal is to provide accessible healthcare for individuals living in underserved communities of India. Through this mission, we successfully completed our first healthcare camp on May 2, 2022, in the village of Sendurai, Ariyalur District, Tamil Nadu. Approximately 350 individuals received free eye examinations, and over 100 received free surgery, medicine, and necessary accommodation. During my internship, my manager was incredibly supportive of this work and encouraged me to register Nila Care Foundation with our employee giving program. This support, along with the inclusive workplace-environment TC Energy adopts, has given me the confidence to continue attempting ideas that once seemed far-fetched.

Though entering a new work environment may feel intimidating, I would encourage future  students to consciously take time to listen to peers and channel their inquisitive side. Through this, an open mind comes naturally, and students can easily strive outside their comfort zones. By adopting this mindset, students will positively contribute to the workplace and take away many skills and life lessons.

Alyson Elguezabal – Communications Student – Houston, TX

The best part of my time as a student is all the real-world, hands-on experience and knowledge I gained. I was with TC Energy for two summers, and through both terms, my leaders and colleagues treated me with respect and as their equal. By doing this, I was able to build my confidence and work on meaningful projects that helped to develop tangible skills I will draw from throughout my career.

I am most passionate about people, and TC Energy certainly supported that during my time here. The people I had the opportunity to work with were terrific role models who never failed to go the extra mile to ensure I gained the most from this experience. I credit my colleagues for how I grew professionally and personally.

My words of wisdom to anyone interested in applying to TC Energy would be to take the leap. Once they get the opportunity, always ask questions and try everything, even if it’s a foreign concept or you’re not sure it’ll work out – this is a trial-and-error friendly environment.

Diego Morales – Co-op Student – Community and Workforce Giving – Calgary, AB

The best part of my time here has been having the freedom to challenge myself and grow as a person, all while having the support of my team. As a result, I have been able to support our portfolio in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.

I have always been passionate about connecting with people, it’s the reason why I decided to go to school for communications. My work at TC Energy has allowed me to connect with individuals at multiple levels within TC Energy. Through volunteering events, external partnerships and our scholarship program in Mexico, I’ve been able to use my language skills in English and Spanish to connect with people across our footprint.

To any future students, I would say not to worry about whether they feel ready or not because TC Energy is a great environment to learn, and they will have the opportunity to work with people who are invested in their success.
