Building relationships in Mexico through safety

Building relationships in Mexico through safety

The safety of our people and the communities where we live and work is one of the TC Energy’s fundamental commitments, and one that we share with civil protection authorities and first responders  across North America.

In recent weeks in Mexico, our Safety team delivered training to better prepare first responders in the central region of the country.

Hidalgo and Guanajuato, two states in central Mexico, are important partners for us as TC Energy approaches the completion of the 420-kilometer Tula - Villa de Reyes natural gas pipeline. Once the project is complete, it will supply natural gas to important industrial hubs, promoting the economic and social development of the Bajio region.

In partnership with the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), we delivered training sessions focused on Emergency Management in Gas Pipelines to more than 200 participants.

Through emergency training sessions like the ones we hosted, we expect to build the capacity needed to respond to any incident. We are also strengthening our relationships with first responders to improve coordination, communication, and teamwork to effectively respond in the unlikely event of an emergency.”

Selene Cazares
Emergency Management Coordinator in Mexico.

For local authorities, the value of the emergency management training is well-received. "These training sessions are vital as they help us to know how we must respond to an emergency to safeguard the integrity and health of people in case of an incident," commented Enrique Padilla Hernández, Undersecretary of Civil Protection and Risk Management of the Government of Hidalgo.

We also donated an emergency response vehicle to each state. With these units, local authorities will have fully-equipped vehicles at their disposal, ready to respond to emergency events.

TC Energía is a socially responsible global company because of the training made possible, by its own resources, for emergency teams in Guanajuato. Also, the donation of an Emergency Response Unit will allow us to offer better response services. This training will establish strong relations between TC Energía and the local authorities where the company has a presence, facilitating better communication, coordination and attention to incidents.”

Luis Antonio Güereca
Guanajuato’s Civil Protection Coordinator.

With these training sessions and vehicle donations, the company shares its expertise and leadership in safety, a central practice for an energy infrastructure company, and one which industries and families throughout Mexico depend on for powering their lives. Safety is not only a must, but also a way of building strong relationships.
