Trade Ministers from Canada and Mexico Visit TC Energía Offices

TC Energy has a strong commitment to contribute to the responsible, sustainable development and growth of North America. Through its expertise in building energy infrastructure, the company has positioned itself as a relevant player in providing access to natural gas for industry and households in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

But the company is also a relevant actor in bringing prosperity. TC Energy is the largest Canadian investor in Mexico; this capital not only creates employment opportunities and energy access for a large part of the territory, but also enables long-lasting commercial relationships between Mexico and Canada.

Last week, Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade of Canada; and Tatiana Clouthier, Secretary of Economy of the Mexican government, visited TC Energy offices in Mexico City, as part of the recognition of the cross-border success stories between Canada and Mexico.

Both Ministers were impressed to learn about the crucial role that TC Energy plays in promoting the social and economic development of the country, by supplying low-cost natural gas in a safe, reliable and sustainable manner. The information provided by TC Energy highlighted that the states in Mexico with access to natural gas are more prosperous and have better living standards.

Minister Ng used Twitter to acknowledge the company's welcome and "discuss the community-centered business approach of TC Energy, the largest Canadian investor in the country." Meanwhile, the Mexican Ministry of Economy published a statement for the media, affirming that the commercial representatives of both countries "witnessed how the company's employees work hand in hand with the CFE to ensure the supply and transportation of natural gas to different regions of the country ".

In her opening remarks, Jennifer Pierce, Senior Vice President of Pipelines in Mexico and President of TC Energía, welcomed the visitors and recognized the contribution of the company’s workforce in the country, their commitment to their work, and their positive impact on their communities. “While we share common values ​​with our American and Canadian colleagues, the hearts and hands that run TC Energía are proudly Mexican and represent 97% of our workforce. We are also working to increase our use of local service providers to maintain and expand our pipeline infrastructure,” Jennifer said.

Leonardo Robles, Vice President of Business Development and Relations with Stakeholders, commented: "Energy infrastructure is essential for social and economic prosperity. TC Energía was the first company to partner with the Mexican government to develop a gas pipeline from Tabasco, to the Yucatan peninsula, in 1998. Collaboration, since then, has been the basis of the success of our strategic alliance with the government, a partnership from which both parties’ benefit. With the right signals, and a clear understanding of the regulatory and permitting path, the company will love to continue investing in Mexico”.

Before their visit, Secretary Clouthier and Minister Ng met with the United States Minister of Commerce, Katherine Tai, to commemorate the first anniversary of the implementation of the T-MEC.
