Houston, our U.S. headquarters and home to more than 1,000 of our people, was severely impacted by the historic storm that hit much of the U.S. The storm brought unprecedented record freezing temperatures that shut down infrastructure providing energy to Texas. Millions found themselves without power or heating for up to several days and experienced food and supply shortages. Many were left without water, and when they did regain access, they had to adhere to a water boil notice across the city.
At TC Energy Corporation, more than 6,500 employees across North America connect the world to the energy it needs.

With its maze of pipelines and storage facilities, the City of Cushing has earned the nickname, “The Pipeline Crossroads of the World.” It is a critical community in the energy industry that is home to many Native American Tribes – as well as a fall festival that brings together the pipeline community and the Tribes. Native Fest is an annual festival held in September that TC Energy has sponsored for several years. A highlight of the festival is an art show that showcases the work of community members such as Amber L. DuBoise-Shepherd.

After the global pandemic was declared in mid-March due to COVID-19, it was a difficult moment when Indigenous Relations team members realized they couldn’t spring into action, load up a truck with supplies and deliver it to the communities they work closely with. The very next day, after we transitioned to work from home, our team members were all talking about how this was going to affect the Indigenous groups we work with. Everyone wanted to immediately reach out to see how they were doing and ask how we could help. Within the first two weeks of the pandemic being declared, the Indigenous Relations team had proactively reached out to all Indigenous groups who live near or along our operations and projects in Canada and the U.S. – more than 200 groups in total.

Personally, and on behalf of TC Energy, I want to congratulate the Blueberry River First Nations on their historic Implementation Agreement with the Province of British Columbia. We celebrate the benefits this agreement will bring to the community for generations to come, and the certainty and stability it will provide to industries like ours.
