With social distancing in effect, gym closures and recreational activities on hold, many of us are looking for ways to stay active and where possible, avoid breaking our fitness routines.

During these uncertain times, it’s important that you check in with yourself to assess how you’re doing in terms of your mental health, work/life balance and other external factors that could impact your overall well-being.

We have been through a lot these last few weeks and for many, dealing with the stress and anxiety of the current situation has been a challenge causing an increase in fatigue or a lack of motivation. Whether you’re working from home or are working as an essential frontline worker, it’s important to manage this fatigue to ensure we’re able to show up effectively and safely for those who depend on us.

Who else grows tired of listening to the same repetitive songs on the radio? One of our newest Executive Leadership Team members, Dawn de Lima, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services, switched from radio to audible books and hasn’t looked back.

In February, we celebrate the rich and vibrant history, culture and achievements of the Black community, while remembering the many challenges faced over hundreds of years. While it is a month of celebration, it is also a time of reflection – to recognize, learn and participate. Education, awareness and action are critical to understanding and inclusion, and we all have a part to play. Two of our Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) Executive Council members, Eric Miller Jr. and Heather Campbell share ways you can get involved, learn and celebrate this Black History Month.

Coastal GasLink implemented a unique program within its workforce lodges known as the Community Workforce Accommodation Advisor (CWAA) Program. The program is being rolled out in Coastal GasLink’s workforce lodges, and is employing members from neighbouring Indigenous communities to lead programming that promotes inclusion and fosters a deeper understanding of the rich cultures and traditions of Indigenous communities.

Beyond fuel in your tank, oil is used to make everyday objects – everything from drinking cups to combs and electronics and more. Literally thousands of things you use daily are made from oil.

More than just a number, the employment opportunities are one of the ways Coastal GasLink is proud to support a healthy economic recovery for communities in the north. “It’s really the people on the ground, who are employed, feeding their families, buying clothing for their kids. They’re being part of the economy, they can make money again and build a good life,” said Derek Orr, SA Energy Group’s Indigenous and Community Relations Manager.

Jack Opgenorth has been an intern with the Cybersecurity Office (CSO) since January – a small amount of time packed with a lot of learning. Working on the frontlines to protect our digital assets, Jack has had the opportunity to see firsthand the cyber threats our company and industry face.

For more than a month, we have been navigating through tough times and a changing daily routine. We’re spending more time at home with our immediate families, the water in the canals of Venice have become crystal clear, the daily hustle and bustle has come to a halt and we’re seeing a drastic shift in society.
