Coastal GasLink Phase 2

A natural Gas project

Coastal GasLink created an extraordinary legacy as Canada’s first direct path to global LNG markets. Built with the support of workers, contractors, and Indigenous and local communities along the route, this system connects Canadian natural gas from where it is produced to global markets where it is needed.

CGL Phase 2 builds on that foundation as a nation-building project, creating new opportunities for Indigenous and local communities, workers and businesses, while helping create more value from Canadian resources.

For the communities closest to the project, Phase 2 starts with local procurement, employment and skills development, Indigenous participation and lasting local partnerships. It helps people build their futures where they live and helps strengthen communities for generations to come.

CGL Phase 2 is about increasing tangible economic benefits for Canadians. By building on infrastructure already in place, Phase 2 creates more value from Canadian resources while generating revenues, creates jobs, strengthens local economies and generates economic activity that helps fund the services people rely on every day.

Construction is expected to create direct benefits for Indigenous and local communities through jobs, contracting, training and skills development opportunities, including employment for up to 2,100 people at peak construction across five sites. By building on infrastructure already in place, Phase 2 supports jobs, investment and economic activity across British Columbia and Canada.

Connecting Canadian Energy to the World

Canada has the resources, expertise and high standards to help meet growing global energy demand. Phase 2 connects more Canadian natural gas to allies and trading partners in growing markets around the world, supporting reliable supply at a time when energy security has never been more important. By increasing deliveries through compression on the existing pipeline, Phase 2 supplies more lower-emission Canadian natural gas to global markets without building new pipe.

Project Overview

CGL Phase 2 will nearly double the amount of natural gas the system can transport without any additional piepline. The Project involves the construction and operation of:

Five new compressor stations located at regular intervals along the existing pipeline route.
Modifications at existing/planned facilities.
Additional infrastructure or facilities to support operational needs.
