ST. ANTHONY, North Dakota – TC Energy welcomed a group of Bismarck State College (BSC) students to its St. Anthony Compressor Station 7 on Thursday, providing a firsthand look at natural gas operations and career opportunities in the energy industry.

The visit gave students in Bismarck State College's Power Generation Technology program, including those enrolled in Turbines and Combined Cycles and Power Generation Components, the opportunity to see how classroom concepts translate into real-world operations, learn about compressor station technology and connect with employees working in the energy infrastructure industry.

“It’s one thing to learn about equipment in a classroom. It’s another to see it working in a real facility,” said Kent Morrell, an Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Technician at TC Energy, Bismarck State College alumnus and fourth-generation North Dakotan. “We want students to see how real-world opportunities connect to what they’re learning.”

“Seeing the equipment and operations in person helped connect what we've been learning in classes like Turbines and Combined Cycles to the work being done in the field,” said Andrew Moseman, a student in Bismarck State College's Power Generation Technology program. “It gave me a better understanding of the technology, the skills needed to operate these facilities and the career opportunities available in the energy industry.”

As North America’s energy needs grow, so does the demand for skilled workers to build, operate and maintain critical infrastructure. According to the INGAA Foundation’s 2025 North American Midstream Infrastructure Report, an estimated $1.2 trillion to $1.4 trillion in infrastructure investment through 2052 could support approximately 414,000 to 828,000 jobs annually across the United States and Canada, underscoring the importance of preparing the next generation of energy professionals.

“Experiences like this are invaluable because they help students bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application,” said Howell Flowers, Associate Professor in Automation, Energy and Advance Technology. “By visiting a working compressor station and speaking directly with industry professionals, students gain practical insight that reinforces their coursework and helps prepare them for future careers.”

TC Energy has a long history of operating in North Dakota, where employees safely operate and maintain critical natural gas infrastructure that delivers reliable energy across North America.

“Developing a strong workforce is essential to ensuring the safe, reliable delivery of energy,” said Morrell. “By connecting students with real-world operations, we hope to inspire future careers in an industry that powers homes, businesses and communities across North America.”

TC Energy is committed to developing the next generation of energy professionals through educational partnerships, hands-on learning opportunities and student, internship and new graduate programs. By connecting students with industry professionals and real-world experiences, the company aims to inspire future careers in energy and help build the skilled workforce needed to support North America’s growing energy needs.
