Canada is making it easier to build

TC Energy’s President and CEO, François Poirier, issued the below statement following the introduction of the Building Canada Strong Act in Canada’s House of Commons:

“Energy security is now economic security and Canada holds advantages that are difficult to replicate: abundant resources, a skilled workforce, access to the Pacific and Atlantic coasts and the rule of law. Canadians are also expert builders of energy infrastructure.

The Building Canada Strong Act delivers regulatory changes that keep pace with Canada’s ambitions. It recognizes that not all projects are major projects and that proportionate, coordinated regulatory review upholds high environmental and engagement standards.

This legislation removes duplication and delay, while maintaining regulatory rigour. The Canada Energy Regulator is a best-in-class regulator with comprehensive environmental, socio-economic and Indigenous engagement requirements—and this legislation builds upon a strong foundation.

The reforms in this legislation will help Canada build the projects needed to deliver reliable energy, grow the economy and compete for capital.

This is a moment for Canada to move from debate to delivery. Let’s build.”
