Media statement - July 31, 2023, 3:00 p.m. EDT

On July 30, Columbia Gas Transmission, LLC (TCO) notified customers regarding an update to the Force Majeure on the pipeline system near Strasburg, Virginia.

Following appropriate integrity and safety reviews and planning conducted in coordination with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), we are working to return to service the adjacent parts of the pipeline system not directly impacted by the incident. We plan to operate the pipelines in the affected area at reduced pressure in accordance with PHMSA's Corrective Action Order (CAO).

We have informed customers about this activity and will continue to work closely with them regarding any additional impacts they may encounter.

We continue to work with local responders and agencies as we progress our investigation, determine plans to repair the impacted pipeline and safely return the system to normal operations.

Media statement - July 28, 2023, 8:00 p.m. EDT

TC Energy continues to respond to an incident on our Columbia Gas Transmission Pipeline located alongside Interstate 81 in Strasburg, Virginia. Since our initial response on July 25, we have mobilized approximately 50 personnel to the site.

Today, following appropriate integrity and safety reviews and planning conducted in coordination with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), we began re-pressurizing activities on the part of the pipeline system that was not directly impacted by the incident. The pipeline system will operate with additional risk mitigation measures in place, including reduced operating pressures. The impacted pipeline segment remains safely shut in and will not be restarted until it is safe to do so.

We have removed an impacted section of the pipe, and it will be transported to a third-party lab for analysis; this is a critical step in the continued investigation. We continue to determine plans to repair the impacted pipeline segment and safely return the system to normal operations. We do not have a timeline for these activities at this time. We appreciate the ongoing oversight and expertise of the local, state and federal agencies involved, including the PHMSA.

Our primary focus is the safety of people and protecting the environment. We will continue to provide updates when available.

Media statement - July 26, 2023, 12:00 p.m. EDT

TC Energy continues to respond to an incident on our Columbia Gas Transmission Pipeline located alongside Interstate 81 in Strasburg, Virginia. Since our initial response on July 25, we have mobilized approximately 25 personnel to the site.

We continue to work with local responders and agencies as we progress our initial investigation, determine plans to repair the impacted pipeline and return the adjacent pipelines to service safely. We do not have a timeline to share for these activities. The section of the impacted pipeline remains shut down, and we continue to work with impacted customers.

We have been in contact with landowners within the impacted radius and are committed to continuing to provide updates and are available to address their questions. The site has been secured to ensure the safety of the local community and to support our response efforts; we are asking that the public avoid the area until further notice.

There remain no reported injuries to our workers or members of the public. Our primary focus is the safety of people and protecting the environment. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of the local first responders, agencies and surrounding communities. We continue to gather information, assess the effects, and provide updates as they become available.

Media statement - July 25, 2023, 1:30 p.m. EDT

TC Energy continues to respond to an incident on our Columbia Gas Transmission Pipeline located alongside Interstate 81 in Strasburg, Virginia.

Thanks to the assistance of local first responders, agencies and our crews, the fire along the Columbia Gas Transmission Pipeline corridor near Strasburg, Virginia, has been extinguished. We continue to work with local authorities and have established an approximately 1,650-foot response radius to ensure the safety of the local community and to support our response efforts; we are asking that the public avoid the area until further notice.

There remain no reported injuries to our workers or members of the public.

The section of the impacted pipeline remains shut down, and we continue to work with customers who are impacted, including notification of a Force Majeure event.

Our primary focus is the safety of our people and communities and protecting the environment. We are continuing to gather information, assess the effects, and provide updates as they become available.


Update #1

Media statement - July 25, 2023, 9:00 a.m. EDT

At approximately 8:41 a.m., EDT, we detected a pressure drop on our Columbia Gas Transmission Pipeline located alongside Interstate 81 in Strasburg, Virginia. We have since been notified of a fire in the vicinity and are working with local authorities to investigate and respond.

TC Energy’s emergency response procedures were activated upon notification. No injuries have been reported and we are currently assessing the impacts. As a precaution, the pipeline section has been isolated.

The safety of our people, communities and protection of the environment are our primary focus. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
