For those involved in technological deployment, seeing quantifiable results from your hard work is gratifying. But recognizing the impact of this work on a human level is really where the hours, weeks, and months of tireless effort pays off. This particularly applies to a cross-unit collaboration in TC Energy’s U.S. Natural Gas (USNG) organization that led to the avoidance of almost 150 in-person callouts between August 2020 and March 2021 on the Columbia Gulf Transmission system. The achievement came with the implementation of remote-control capabilities for Gas Control in Charleston, W.Va.
It started with a solid foundation and became something much more than we even knew was possible. Like many companies, TC Energy had to shift to a remote work environment very quickly – over the course of a weekend to be exact – and we made that transition seamlessly. How did we accomplish a seamless transition? That question was something the Canadian Business Resilience Network (CBRN) was also wondering. Our Vice-President, Information Services and Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chris Foster joined the CBRN to deliver a webinar – Building digital capacity and business resiliency during COVID-19. Chris spoke to how we worked through the challenges of the pandemic and the strides we are making in moving forward with digital innovation.

For most of us, there is abundant access to energy providing electricity to power essentials, such as heating, cooling, lighting, charging, refrigeration, and many more of life’s comforts.
Located in British Columbia’s Peace River Regional District, the North Montney Mainline (NMML) provides the critical natural gas transmission infrastructure required to connect natural gas producers and downstream markets throughout Canada and the United States, generating tax revenues for hospitals, schools and more in some of B.C.’s more remote communities.
“From the time you get up in the morning until you go to bed at night, it’s difficult to find a moment when you haven’t used energy transported by a pipeline.” – Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA)
