The recent completion of the Murray River Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) marks a huge milestone for Coastal Gaslink – the largest trenchless water crossing on the project has been completed with zero safety incidents. This 1.3 kilometre section of pipe weighs over 1.2 million pounds, and the 48-inch HDD signifies the largest of its kind for TC Energy and one of the longest in North America. Before work could even begin on-site, years of planning went into making sure everything went smoothly in coordination with our prime contractor Surerus Murphy Joint Venture (SMJV).
For those involved in technological deployment, seeing quantifiable results from your hard work is gratifying. But recognizing the impact of this work on a human level is really where the hours, weeks, and months of tireless effort pays off. This particularly applies to a cross-unit collaboration in TC Energy’s U.S. Natural Gas (USNG) organization that led to the avoidance of almost 150 in-person callouts between August 2020 and March 2021 on the Columbia Gulf Transmission system. The achievement came with the implementation of remote-control capabilities for Gas Control in Charleston, W.Va.
The Tula - Villa de Reyes (TVDR) Project stretches over 420 km in the heartland of Mexico, including mountain ranges and several river crossings, which have put to test not only the technical skills, but also the safety procedures of both TC Energía and our contractors. Despite some challenges, TC Energía’s team has achieved over 1.6 million hours without recording a lost-time incident. Learn how it was done.
