On Sept. 15, TC Energy and Columbia Gas Transmission’s Virginia Reliability Project (VRP) received a favorable environmental impact statement (EIS) by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). FERC’s findings also reflected the work of federal and state experts under the National Environmental Policy Act.
The proposed Grande Prairie Mainline Loop No. 4 (Valhalla North Section) and Berland River Compressor Station C3 Unit Addition will increase natural gas transportation service on our existing natural gas pipeline system in Alberta to meet growing demand.
Compressor stations provide energy needed to move natural gas through pipelines to reach our homes and provide everyday comforts, such as heating, cooling and cooking.

Ensuring the integrity of our pipeline assets is one of our main objectives when we talk about our safety as a core value. It becomes a challenge when we must make it real in our 92,600 km (57,500 miles) network of natural gas pipelines. These plastic slabs are just as efficient as concrete to avoid third-party mechanical, but with additional benefits. Its high visibility colour allows our patrolling team to easily spot any exposed section in the pipeline and quickly reveals the existence of a high-pressure pipeline to any third party performing unauthorized activities over the pipeline.
Over the past few months, we’ve transitioned into a reality which includes living with COVID-19. Now we are learning how to carefully manage this risk and move forward – slowly reopening and recovering the economy while balancing safety and health precautions.
