Southeast Gateway Project

Overview

At TC Energy, our purpose is to connect the world with the energy it needs. In pursuit of this, we developed the Southeast Gateway Pipeline, a submarine pipeline developed and built in collaboration with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE). This strategic pipeline transports natural gas from Tuxpan, Veracruz to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz and Paraíso, Tabasco, unlocking new possibilities for southeastern Mexico.

With an investment of US$3.9 billion, delivered on time and 13% under budget, the Southeast Gateway Pipeline stands as a shining example of what visionary public-private collaboration can accomplish. It marks a turning point in Mexico’s energy future, laying the foundation for decades of sustainable growth, energy resilience, and regional development.

With a transport capacity of over 1,300 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d), the pipeline guarantees a reliable energy supply to the Yucatán Peninsula and supports the fortification of energy security across Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. It’s a game-changer for communities and industries alike—delivering cleaner energy to a region that has long lacked dedicated and reliable supply and setting the stage for sustainable development for generations to come.

Energy that transforms the Southeast

  • Provides natural gas supply to support 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity, enabling cleaner and more efficient electricity production for generations to come.
  • Reduces emissions by replacing the use of fuel oil with natural gas in CFE’s combined cycle power plants.

The Gateway to Progress

  • Created over 4,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction, boosting local economies and livelihoods.
  • Expands national natural gas coverage in Southeast Mexico, advancing the goals of Plan México and unlocking new opportunities for development.
  • Energizes industrial hubs proximate to the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, catalyzing long-term economic growth.

Technical Overview

Connects with the TGNH System at Tuxpan, extending to Coatzacoalcos and Paraíso, mainly transporting U.S. south Texas natural gas supply via the Sur de Texas Pipeline.

  • Total length: 715 km
    • 690 km submarine
    • 25 km onshore
  • Natural gas transport capacity: 1,300 million cubic feet daily
  • Investment: USD $3.9 billion
