Congratulations Ksi Lisims LNG – Canada one step closer to becoming an LNG superpower

TC Energy Statement

Congratulations to Nisga’a Nation on Ksi Lisims LNG and the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Project being referred to the Major Projects Office. Indigenous leadership is shaping Canada’s energy future—through Indigenous co-ownership, this net-zero project will deliver lasting benefits and create meaningful opportunities for Indigenous and local communities in British Columbia.

Today’s announcement further strengthens Canada as an emerging LNG superpower. With Ksi Lisims LNG and LNG Canada Phase 2 elevated to the Major Projects Office, it is clear that natural gas infrastructure and projects are fundamentally aligned with Canada's broader national interests.

I will say it once more: Canada has a time-bound opportunity to strengthen its economic sovereignty and global position through strategic energy infrastructure development. Achieving this requires Canada to maintain its momentum and develop regulatory frameworks that provide process certainty, enable timely development of critical infrastructure and provide competitive investment frameworks.

François Poirier commends Government of Canada for moving with urgency to launch Major Projects Office

The creation of the Major Projects Office is another important step signaling that Canada wants to get projects built and Canadians working. This is an encouraging step forward and more needs to be done.

“I congratulate Dawn Farrell on her appointment as CEO of the Major Projects Office by Prime Minister Carney. Her experience and knowledge of our industry will be of tremendous benefit to the government’s objectives of enabling energy to strengthen our economic sovereignty and making Canada the strongest economy in the G7. I look forward to meeting with her at the soonest opportunity to learn more about how TC Energy can contribute and continue to connect the West and the East through our critical energy infrastructure, delivering the essential natural gas needed to power homes and businesses across Canada and the globe.

Canada faces a time-bound opportunity to strengthen its economic sovereignty, build its economy and re-establish its position in today’s competitive global landscape. Countries that move decisively to develop strategic infrastructure gain significant advantages. I believe the Major Projects Office has the potential to help Canada seize these opportunities if it delivers meaningful improvements to regulatory process certainty and efficiency.”

—TC Energy President and Chief Executive Officer, François Poirier

TC Energy has consistently advocated for regulatory frameworks that provide the predictability and certainty needed for investment and, along with other industry leaders, laid out an action plan to build energy infrastructure and enhance clean technology that will support Canada’s economy and make it an energy superpower. As we evaluate how this new office will establish predictable processes that enable efficient project advancement, we remain committed to our disciplined approach to capital allocation, assessing all potential projects based on customer needs and commercial viability.

We look forward to working constructively with governments, Indigenous communities, customers and all stakeholders to advance infrastructure that strengthens Canada's economic sovereignty and energy security.
