Fox Creek Incident

TC Energy responds to incident near Fox Creek, Alta.

Following our initial coordinated emergency response efforts to the Fox Creek Incident on the NGTL System, near Fox Creek, Alberta and after careful assessment, we transitioned our response early last week to focus on repair and restoration activities. Since this time, repair of the pipeline section has been completed, with the Simonette Lateral Meter Station expected to be safely back in-service soon.

We continue environmental monitoring and restoration ensuring we carry out our activities with the least disturbance possible.

Safety is paramount and the protection of our employees, local communities and the environment will remain priorities as site work wraps up through mid-May. We are committed to learning from the incident to ensure the continued safe operation of our pipeline systems

Over the past few days, NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) technical experts and emergency management personnel have continued to safely and effectively respond to the Fox Creek Incident on the NGTL System, near Fox Creek, Alberta.

Following our initial coordinated emergency response efforts and after careful assessment, we have transitioned our response to now focus on repair and restoration activities, which includes excavation work to support ongoing assessment and repair of the pipeline, while continuing to monitor for potential environmental effects.

We continue to conduct ongoing engagement with nearby Indigenous communities, local stakeholders and regulatory agencies. Safety is paramount and the protection of our employees, local communities and the environment will remain priorities as site work continues. We are committed to learning from the incident to ensure the continued safe operation of our pipeline systems.

We will provide another update as repair and restoration activities progress.

We are continuing to work collaboratively with federal agencies to support our ongoing response to the natural gas release on our 8-inch Simonette Lateral natural gas pipeline on the NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) System, near Fox Creek, Alberta.

Over the past 24 hours, technical experts and emergency management personnel have continued to safely and effectively respond to the incident. Air monitoring, environmental and wildlife mitigation efforts are in place. No injuries have been reported.   

We are conducting ongoing engagement with nearby Indigenous communities, local stakeholders and regulatory agencies. Safety is paramount and we continue to take steps to protect the public and our employees, and to minimize any environmental or other impacts in the immediate area.

We will continue to provide updates as we learn new information about this incident.

Incident located west of Fox Creek, Alberta


Updated: 15:30 p.m. MDT - April 8, 2022

We continue to gather information and assess the effects of a natural gas release on our 8-inch Simonette Lateral natural gas pipeline on the NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. (NGTL) System. The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. MDT on April 7, 2022, in a remote area approximately 80 kilometres west of Fox Creek, Alberta. We immediately activated our emergency management and response procedures and deployed technicians to the area to assess and gather information. As part of the incident, a fire was reported and extinguished. We have the pipeline isolated and are working with affected customers. There are no reported injuries to our workers or members of the public.  

TC Energy technical experts and emergency management personnel are actively responding and working closely with federal and local authorities to ensure an effective and coordinated response. Air monitoring has been established at the site for the ongoing safety of personnel and contractors accessing the area.

We have notified regulatory agencies and local responders as well as adjacent Indigenous communities, municipalities and industrial operators on a precautionary basis. We continue to take steps to protect the safety of the public and our employees, and to minimize any impacts in the immediate area.  As new information is learned about this incident, we will provide updates.

We are aware of an incident near Fox Creek, Alta. and have activated our emergency management and response procedures. We are working closely with federal and local authorities to ensure a coordinated response.  
 
The safety of our people, communities and protection of the environment are our primary focus and we are actively responding. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
