Community investment provides life-saving equipment in Pennsylvania

It was just over a year ago that TC Energy visited the Renovo, Pennsylvania volunteer fire department to see the Lucas 3 Device in action. This critical piece of equipment was purchased with a grant from TC Energy and will help first responders administer CPR to patients experiencing cardiac arrest.

"We know that 90 per cent of people who experience cardiac arrest outside of the hospital pass away," says Jim Risley, Volunteer Fire Chief. "This device will improve our ability to respond to cardiac events and help keep members of our community safe."

The donation was made possible through Build Strong, TC Energy's community investment program that offers support to communities where we live, work and operate across North America. The Lucas 3 Device donation was made under the safety focus area, which offers valuable tools and resources to non-profit first responder organizations.

"Our Build Strong program is focused on addressing the unique needs of the communities where we operate," says Leanne Zee, manager, Community and Employee Involvement. "Whether we are partnering to equip first responders with the tools they need, providing breakfast programs in schools, awarding scholarships to students or conserving important habitat, we want to help build strong communities and create lasting relationships."

TC Energy employee committed to helping people

But there's more to this story. One of our employees played a key role in making this donation happen. Brandon Fleisher is a compressor station engineer and also a volunteer firefighter in Renovo. When he heard about TC Energy’s community investment program, Build Strong, he knew first-hand the impact that a grant for equipment might have on his community.

I chose to be a volunteer firefighter just because I like helping people and I like helping in the community – I just enjoy it," Brandon explains. "TC Energy is looking to build strong communities, and this is one scenario right here where they're making a big impact in the community.”
