The Portland Natural Gas Transmission System (PNGTS) is advancing the Portland XPress (PXP) project to increase New England’s energy supply without adding new underground facilities. Added to existing capacity, PXP will be capable of transporting 200 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of natural gas to areas where it is in great demand.
Phases I and II of the project are in service, and construction activities are underway on Phase III. PXP is currently on track to be fully in service by yearend 2020.
PXP is governed according to regulations outlined by the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). It is also subject to rules and regulations of the Department of Energy (DOE) administered by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
